In Malta, over 60 school children are unable to read due to visual impairments. However, a dedicated effort is underway to change this reality. Through the support of The President’s Trust, RE/MAX Malta is striving to raise over €90,000 to purchase essential equipment for these children.
RE/MAX Malta has mobilized all its offices to host a variety of charity events. Each of the 27 offices has taken a creative approach to fundraising, organizing unique events such as:
These events have brought together the community in a shared mission to support visually impaired children.
At a memorable Christmas party held at the Westin Dragonara Resort, RE/MAX Malta announced a substantial donation of €50,000 to The President’s Trust and the Malta Community Chest Fund. President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca received the donation, with €40,000 specifically earmarked for the #HelpThemRead campaign. This initiative, launched in late 2018, aims to provide the necessary tools for 60 visually impaired children to learn to read.
During the event, President Coleiro Preca expressed her heartfelt thanks to the RE/MAX staff and their partners. She highlighted the profound impact of their contributions: “I am proud of all of you for grasping such a noble cause and making it your quest to raise such a substantial amount for less fortunate children who urgently required equipment to empower them to be able to read. This gesture will be life-altering for these children and the community at large. The RE/MAX & Friends Foundation is a shining example to other companies, as a beacon of Corporate Social Responsibility.”
To further drive fundraising efforts, the RE/MAX & Friends Foundation, along with RE/MAX’s Sales and Letting offices, organized a friendly competition among branches to see who could raise the most funds. From trekking events and blind-folded dog walks to hot dog and lemonade stands, car washes, musical concerts, football tournaments, and children’s fun days, the teams went above and beyond to meet their targets.
The offices that excelled in their fundraising efforts were honored in a surprise ceremony where President Coleiro Preca personally presented certificates. The top five offices were:
Jeff Buttigieg, a board member of the RE/MAX & Friends Foundation, reflected on the journey: “We set some challenging targets and it did seem to be a very difficult task to begin with, but it brought the whole company together. All 27 offices got involved, believed in the cause, and achieved this fantastic result together. It was very satisfying to see so many selfless acts being made by people within our organization… They believed in one goal, and they enjoyed themselves.”
Founded in 2014, the RE/MAX & Friends Foundation is a non-profit organization focused on supporting chronically ill children. The Foundation also allocates a portion of its funds to assist staff members who may need financial support for approved medical treatments.
Through collective effort and community spirit, RE/MAX Malta and its partners are making a tangible difference in the lives of visually impaired children, helping to turn their dreams of reading into reality.
